Antique 1903 KPM Berlin Porcelain Damaskus Service Dinner Plate Porzellan Teller
A rare dinner plate from the famous Damaskus Service made by KPM in 1903 for the personal use of Kaiser Wilhelm II. It is a really nice design based on 18th century Chinese lotus blossom designs and superbly hand painted with lots of detail. The central design is very different from the usual KPM flowers and also based on famille rose type Chinese designs from the 1700's. I have had a few pieces from this service over the years but never a dinner plate so that is definitely something special. The plate is in great condition with some wear to mostly the gilding around the edge of the well possibly from stacking. What makes this piece special besides being a nicely done piece is the fact that it was made for Kaiser Wilhelm II and has his personal monogram on the back! The plate is 1.125 inches tall and has a diameter of 9.5 inches. It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter, the red orb as well as a gold artist marks by the foot ring and impressed marks common to the early 20th century pieces. And off course the WR under a crown and the year 1903 under that in blue. 20thC 20th century Royal Royalty German Germany King König.
