Antique KPM Berlin Porcelain Kurland Butter Spoon Porzellan Butterstecher German

An extremely rare serving spoon for butter made by KPM in the Kurland pattern. Not sure if they even still make this particular piece as it is really rare to begin with.

If it is an 18th century original it would be from the royal service. In German it is called a Butterstecher - not sure of the proper English name but it is for serving butter - it would curl it as you drag it over the surface and give it a pattern as well. The spoon has a nicely shaped handle with some gilding and turquoise highlights typical for this pattern as well as a butterfly to the front and a nice flower to the back.

The spoon part of the spoon has a ribbed design to the front and the back with the front having a nice floral arrangement hand painted on it and the back has nice large bug on it. The piece is not marked which is normal with this type of item. It is in good condition but does have a chip to the front right corner as shown and a black spot to the side where it was propped up during the firing process. It displays very well as is and is not really obvious at all when on display. Plus the rarity makes up for the little issue! The spoon is 6.5 inches long with the bowl part being 1.75 inches long, 1.5 inches wide and 0.875 inches deep. 18thC German Germany Dekor 73 decor 18th century royalty Loeffel.
