A cup and saucer made by KPM in about 1914. These cups were the result of some big patriotism movement in Germany in the beginning of the first World War. The Iron Cross was normally a military decoration only, though there were instances of it being awarded to civilians for performing military functions. It was integrated in all sorts of patriotic items from postcards to these cups around this time period.
The cup and saucer are of a nice shape. Both have a grey ground color with a simple yet elegant gold trim and the cup has the iron cross on the front with the year 1914, the letter W and a crown. Nice handle on the cup as well!
The set is in perfect condition. Both pieces are marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter mark, the red orb, the iron cross and numerous other painted and impressed marks as shown in the pictures. The cup is 2.625 inches tall (without the handle) and 2.875 inches in diameter.
The saucer is 1 inch tall and 5.375 inches in diameter. 20thC 20th Century Eisernes Kreuz.
