The Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin (German: Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin, abbreviated as KPM) was founded in 1763 by King Frederick II of Prussia. KPM has produced a number of dishware forms and porcelain figurines throughout its history.

Some forms have hardly changed their shape in over 200 years of production. Frederick the Great, who, as the owner, jokingly referred to himself as his own "best customer", was under the spell of the Rococo style during his life; a culmination of this artistic style can be seen in his castles. The company is still in business!

This beautiful oval porcelain plaque features a stunning and lifelike Renaissance-style hand-painted portrait of the Madonna and child. The portrait is intricately and expertly painted and executed and depicts a serene Madonna gazing lovingly at her sacred child. The porcelain plaque is marked on the back "KPM" and features the scepter mark. The plaque is mounted in a giltwood ornate oval frame with coordinating gilt velvet matting.

Plaque presents beautifully and is in excellent antique condition, with very minimal display wear and no chips or cracks. Frame is in very good antique condition, with very minimal wear and patina commensurate with age. Add old world elegance and style to any interior with this artisan hand-painted porcelain masterpiece. Dimensions: 12-3/4" in height, 10-3/4" in width, 1-5/8 in depth (w/ frame).
