Antique KPM Porcelain Painted SISTINE MADONNA After Raphael Plaque Rococo Frame. Berlin porcelain plaque: "Sistine Madonna" after Raphael porcelain plaque, painted on front face with polychrome enamels. Signed with impression mark on back of plaque K. Framed in Rococo Revival period frame with production of plaque, is of a figural leaf and gesso. Frame has several minor chips to leaves and gesso. The porcelain plaque presents on it's front face a miniature copy of Raphael's masterpiece of easel painting Madonna and Child of St. Sixtus" commonly called "The Sistine Madonna. The miinature copy has followed faithfully all details of Raphael's original masterpiece, from the superhuman figure of the Virgin represented as floating above a central cloud bank, in contrast to the flanking figure of Saints Sixtus and Barbara, who sink partway into clouds, to the 2 winged cherubs leaning on a foreground ledge. The heads of other cherubs, seen dimly to make up the luminous background glory, and the deep green curtains, drawn to the sides to reveal the heavenly vision. The copy catches something of the chromatic splendor of the High Classic original, as well as it's predominantly solid modeling.

The copy at the same time reflects influence of the period style prevailing in Berlin at the time the copy was made: that the Impressionism's giving way to Post-Impressionism, 1885 - 1905. This is mad evident in the copy's bright colors, brighter than the original's and the detail as revealed in the shadowed parts of the composition as well as in the lights.
