Jewelry: 1910 - 1939 Art Deco. FINE ANTIQUE KPM GERMANY MINIATURE UNMOUNTED PORCELAIN PLAQUE NEAPOLITAN GIRL. We have been fortunate to obtain an estate that featured a wall full of antique German and French porcelain plaques in varying size, form and painting. Can you imagine how beautiful that must have looked? We have 2 more miniature porcelain plaques that were never set, ready for you to mount in a frame for the wall or to set into a bezel (hopefully gold) to be worn as a necklace/pin!
This lovely antique miniature porcelain plaque is painted in amazing detail with the portrait of a very lovely young Italian woman. The portrait is called "The Neapolitan" which is after Gustav Karl Richter (1803-84) original dated 1870. The KPM depiction was by the artist "Hefs" (not sure the entire name). No artist signature, however the quality is so fabulous, we feel it could be by Wagner -perhaps his first name is Hefs? This is from the Berlin KPM factory during the mid/late 19th Century.
The back of the plaque is marked "601" along with impressed marks of "D, E and S" stacked on top of each other. The Neapolitan girl is wearing a white peasant shirt. The detail to the face, hair and necklace is beautiful. The colors to the face are very soft and incredibly life like.
You know it was done by an accomplished painter! Plaque measures approximately 44mm high by 35mm wide. Condition to the plaque is excellent.
