A perfume / scent bottle in the shape of an egg made by KPM in the mid 19th century or earlier. It is hand painted with a very detailed scene of the city of Bad Gastein which is in Austria just south of Salzburg and near Munich and Innsbruck. It is a spa and ski town and famous for its waterfall which is depicted here in the scene. The scene is surrounded by a nice gold trim typical for this maker with the rest of the egg having a really nice blue ground color and a gold star to the bottom and a bit more gilding around the top opening.Inside is a piece of the old dried up cork. The piece is in superb condition but it is missing its original stopper. I'll find one eventually I hope.
The piece is unmarked which is always the case with these eggs as there is no good spot to do so without killing the decoration. There seems to be a painter's mark to the inside edge of the opening in the shape of a leaf or something along those lines as shown. The egg is 2.75 inches tall and 2.125 inches in diameter. A nice sized piece that looks stunning!
