This is an exceptional 19th Century German KPM Porcelain painting of Saint Cecilia. The porcelain placque is intact without any damage, no scratches on the painted surface, or loss of paint. Plaque and it's delicate gilded frame have been carefully protected from the elements such as oxidization, cigar smoke, etc. This protection has created an extremely rare and fine condition of the plaque, c ondition doesn't get better than this. There does appear to be a small area of the interior frame that has some type of residue on it and could be cleaned.

The rest of the frame appears to be in very good condition. However, this is an antique frame and not new. Do not expect perfection for antique frames: the nature of antique means having been around for a long time and condition depends on many factors regarding earlier care. The placque's original attachment was removed previously and will need to be securely attached to the backing. I strongly suggest a professional framer who is well experienced working with fine antiques. In any case, the painting should not be subjected to possible glass shards in the unlikely case the glass arrives broken. The condition on the rear of the plaque is not a defect but consistent with antique age approaching 200 years. KPM- Konigliche Porzellan-Manufactur Berlin was founded in 1763 by King Frederick II of Prussia (Frederick the Great). The feast day of Saint Cecilia, patroness of music, is celebrated on November 22.

This antique piece was acquired in 1914 by my grandmother who resided in Berlin at that time. I will be listing other fine antique pieces of German porcelain and stained glass, including antique Meissen, that also came from her estate. The approximate measurements are (see photos). 11.5" wide x 13.5" high.
