An extremely rare figurine made by Wegely (first predecessor of KPM Berlin) around 1755. It is of a cherub in disguise working as a cook or chef. He is holding a pot over the fire next to him (or would normally be).
The modeling is superb for such an early figurine and the paste is already really good as well. The face and wings are a good clue as to the maker in the case as well as the way the base is done but the best clue is the set of numbers underneath the base. The figurine is in decent condition given how rare these figures are. The wings, head and fire are all perfect but sadly the main damage is the missing pot along with a good part of that hand but it's not impossible to restore that perfectly. Also the end of the knife is missing, the pinky on the other hand has a chip and the end of the handle under that hand is gone.
The figure is 3.75 inches tall, 1.75 inches deep and 2 inches wide. It is marked on the back of the base with an under glaze blue W mark though it is impossible to see except for a blue smudge but on the underside are the impressed numbers 1 over 90 over 45 which means it can only be by Wegely.
