HAND PAINTED ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN PLAQUE. "Solitude" features a young, lovely, partially nude woman.
Only a relatively small number of Asti paintings depict nude or partially nude women, making them highly desirable. Angelo Asti was an Italian artist who became famous in Paris for his beautiful female portraits. His portraits are highly sought after and were the subject of many German porcelain plaques and portrait plates during the Art Nouveau period. Asti's portraits were also popular around the world on calendars from this time period. His portraits are considered by many to be the original pin-up girls.
The plaque measures 7¼ " x 5". The plaque is signed Wagner in the lower right corner of the plaque.
Wagner was a well known porcelain painter. The plaque is impressed "311", which references the size of the plaque, as well as "HR" inside of a circle, both of which confirm the fact that the plaque itself was manufactured by Hutschenreuther.
The "HR" mark was used by Hutschenreuther prior to 1904. The plaque is also marked with a scepter and the initials K.
The quality of the painting is absolutely superb. Even the individual hair strands are visible in the painting. The plaque is set in an absolutely stunning gilded ornate wood and gesso frame, which is then housed within a black preservation shadowbox frame with its original rolled wavy glass. The plaque by itself is beautiful, but this stunning frame makes this plaque stand out even more and will make this plaque the focal point of any wall.This is a rare opportunity. I personally guarantee this plaque to be 100% authentic, over 100 years old, and completely hand painted (not a transfer)!
Plaque: 7¼ " x 5 " (18,42 cm x 12,7 cm). Frame: 18"H x 15½"W x 3¾D. This wonderfully decorated portrait plaque is in EXCELLENT condition with a beautiful original glaze.
There are NO chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. Any white spots or lines in the photographs are from the flash and/or reflections and are not damage. The inner heavily gilded wood and gesso frame is extraordinarly ornate and detailed and is in excellent condition with only a few isolated small cracks in the gesso, but no apparent losses. The outer frame is painted black and I believe it might be the original paint.
The shadowbox frame is in excellent condition with minimal wear and only a few minor imperfections.
