Antique KPM Berlin Hand Painted Porcelain Jeweled Portrait Vase Children 10.5
Today we're offering an enchanting, antique vase produced by KPM of Berlin, circa late 1800's, early 1900's. The mark is a cobalt blue sceptre (alone), underglazed. The vase comes to us from the estate of an elderly gentleman collector here in the Pacific N. The applied, enamel, turquoise "jewels" and lavish gold-gilt designs are nothing short of "delicious" in our opinion.
The base color is eggplant or aubergine. The portrait consists of three young children under a tree, leaning over the top of a wood fence gazing at something above them; perhaps a bird or butterfly?Two of the children with brown hair look to be brother and sister - both have brown eyes. The other little girl is blonde with blue eyes. They look to be enjoying a beautiful day playing outside. The artist has signed his or her initials in the bottom right corner of the portrait: R. Is what it looks like.
The back side of the vase has a round panel with musical instruments, ribbon, goblet and scroll, all painted in gold. Perhaps it was created to mark a celebratory occasion or important event. The vase is a traditional, baluster form made of white porcelain, measuring 10.5 tall. It appears to be in very good condition. We have not attempted to clean it.
