A superb plate made by KPM around 1840. The plate is nicely hand painted with a topographical scene in the center featuring the Königsbrücke in Berlin.

This bridge was one of the main ways into the city of Berlin from the surrounding areas but at the end of the 19th century it was torn down since the water under it had dried up anyway and filled in to make room for the expansion of the city of Berlin. So it does not exist anymore. Nice to be able to see what it looked like fairly close to when it was destroyed.

The scene is very nice in terms of quality and detail. You have the bridge in the foreground and some buildings further back with people walking over the bridge and some trees on the right side. The scene is surrounded by a gold trim and the edge of the plate has a gold and blue ring on the rim. A very decorative piece and I always love to see what things looked like in the past! The plate is in great condition with some minor marks and wear to the gilding. The plate is marked underneath with the under glaze blue eagle holding a scepter and orb with the letters KPM under it as well as the red orb mark, the usual impressed numbers of the period and the title of the scene on the front in black - Die Königs Br.

Cke in Berlin as shown. The plate is 1.25 inches tall and 8.375 inches in diameter. German Germany 19th century 19thC Ansichtenteller. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like Nymphenburg, Hutschenreuther and so on.
