Something I have not seen before - a set of six knives with the handles being porcelain made by KPM in the early 20th century and painted in the Weichmalerei style. Each handle is hand painted with two nice floral designs in those stunning colors with some raised white highlights as well as raised gilding around the floral designs and in between them. A little off white ground color on the ends of each knife make these extremely elegant.
The metal parts are all sterling silver and marked as such. I have not seen handles painted in this style and they are stunning! I think these are butter or fruit knives.
Each knife is 7.25 inches long with the porcelain being 2.875 inches of that. The silver parts are a bit tarnished. Now for the crappy news - only two of the knives are in great condition, one other knife has a chip towards the collar and is thus in decent shape but the others all have cracks - a common issue on this type of ware!
Still rare enough to have them fixed so have one stunning set! The sterling is marked as shown but no marks on the porcelain. No question on who made them though with this type of painting : German Germany. If you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces like Derby , Sevres and so on.
