This late 19th century rendering was inspired by a painting completed by Adélaïde Labille-Guiard (French, 1749 - 1803) in 1788 that was commissioned by King Louis XVI's aunts. It depicts Elisabeth, the daughter of Louis XV. The shadows on her face may symbolize death as she died of smallpox at the age thirty-two. Framed in period bronze easel frame.
Titled by hand on back of plaque. No other marks, no incised marks on the back but the work of a very talented hand on a par with the best of KPM plaques. Measures 12in x 7.5in framed and 9.25in x 6.25in image only.
