HUTSCHENREUTHER PLAQUE HAND PAINTED Antique German Porcelain Plaque "The Hermit" Koninck Hutschenreuther. A very fine hand painted 19th century porcelain plaque after the original works of Saloman Koninck's, Nice example of a Hutschenreuther late 19th century Berlin plaque, No noticeable scratches.
The face and hands are superb, the furrows in his cheeks, the concentration on his face and brow and his deep thought of what he is reading. The hair that once resided on his head, now has become his thick beard and bushy eyebrows. Eyes, small and studying the pages of the over sized book. The pages are of thick sheepskin and if you look very close, you can almost descifer the words that he is pouring over. As the sun falls over the landscape, his heavy wool overcoat, almost as thick as his beard, keeps him so comfortable that he does not realise that dusk and the evenings shadows are ready to envelope him and his ability to see the thick pages.........
The artist almost pulls you into the landscape as if you were eavesdropping on the old man's thoughts. I have not found more character in the expression, in the lines and forrows of this old hermits appearance, not even all of the beautiful faces and all of the beautiful female KPM subjects(Models)as I have found in this one thought provoking painting, as this artist tells in his discriptive stokes in his brush, that is this old man, "The Hermit". This very fine hand painted 19th century porcelain plaque is of the Berlin Style, Hutschenreuther of the middle and later part of the 19th century. The subtle touches of colors that enliven skin tones really make the face, hands and fore and top of balding head are true to life, even the folds of skin are extraordinarily detailed to life.
Even the sky colors in upper left hand corner has a brilliance that captures the feeling of late afternoon leading into dusk. Identifying marks are the impressed "101" at the lower bottom right which appears to date from the manufacturing as it has been partially glazed(see photo detail) The plaque is 7 7/8" inches by 6" inches by 3/8 inch thick. The name "Koeninx" hand written as well as the number 134 or 734 look contemporary to the enameling.
(see photos of the back of the plaque). PLEASE SEE ALL PHOTOS AS THEY DESCRIBE THE COSMETIC PART OF THE PLAQUE BETTER THAN I CAN -PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS.
