KPM Decorative 4 Plates 8 Silesia Krister Hand Painted Fruit withGold 1840-1895
DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted set of 4 plates was decorated by a very talented artist. The color palette used is yellow, orange, green and purple on white w/gold. There is a wide 3/4 color band next to the rim of the plate. Three of the plates have the pear and plum decoration while the fourth plate has the lemon and cherry decoration. There is a light lavender wash on all 4 plates that lightens the area behind the fruit.

The scalloped rim is trimmed in gold. This is such a realistic painting of the fruits and was obviously meant to be displayed as a cabinet plate or wall decoration. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, its condition is superb. We can find no defects or damage.

There is very minor gold wear that is appropriate for the age of the plates. One plate has a small nick on the foot rim. There are no chips, other nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines.

These are clean & white on the back. DIMENSIONS: The plates have a diameter of 8" with a height of 15/16". He was a painter and decorator of porcelain who was also a kaolin deposit owner. Though his original intent was to emulate the designs and benefit from the reputation of the'Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur' (KPM) in Berlin, the quality of his porcelain was such high quality that he obtained his own clientele of wealthy patrons and won numerous awards at porcelain exhibitions, particularly in Paris.

Upon his death in 1867, the pottery went to the Haenschke heirs who further improved the factory to the point that in 1913 it employed 800 workers. The heirs decided to change it into a limited corporation in 1920 and by 1921, it was acquired by the Rosenthal Group who continued the current mark usage until 1927.

After WWII, the factory was nationalized and was renamed in 1952 to Porcelana Stolowa Krzysztof. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
