Large Antique Porcelain Plaque Hand Painted KPM Style Unsigned Young Lovers 9X13

This listing offers an impressive old porcelain plaque that is beautifully hand painted with impressive details. Sadly, we cannot find a mark or signature on the front or the back.

The scene depicts young lovers in a secluded woodland tryst. The fellow appears to be extracting a thorn from his lover's foot while she looks on.

We like the artist's attention to detail - curls in their hair, a basket of fruit and flowers, a flute-style instrument hanging from a broken tree branch, a diminutive bird nest complete with occupants, and beautifully detailed flowers and leaves. This large piece measures an impressive 9 X 13 inches and weighs 3 pounds 5 ounces. We believe the quality of the painting and the size/age of the plaque point to a prominent porcelain producer such as KPM. Some old ink marks and discoloration are all that appear on the reverse side of the porcelain. Unfortunately, the plaque does have some light scuffs and surface scratches commensurate with age and being unframed - these are primarily on the young lady's leg and torso (see pictures).

Still, this lovely old piece displays nicely and would look even better in a period appropriate frame. New owners may also consider restoration - it is a piece that would be worth the effort.
