Rare Antique mid-1800's KPM (Krister) Pierced Gilded Oak Leaf 14 Platter
Rare Antique mid-1800's KPM (Krister) Pierced Gilded Oak Leaf 14 Platter or Shallow Bowl. This extremely unique platter measures 14" in Length x 9-3/4" Width x 2-1/4 Height.

Platter Description: The scalloped edge is made up of branches and parts of lobed oak leaves, with their tips pointed to the bottom of the bowl. In the center is an additional gold metallic decoration. This piece was made by Krister Porzellan-Manufaktur (in business from 1831 until 1920), not to be confused with the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur in Berlin (a/k/a KPM Berlin). Unfortunately, because these two competitors often used similar marks, especially in the 1800's, there is often confusion and thought that the two companies were related, when they were competing firms with differing wares. Even combines the two under a general KPM listing.

Maker's Mark : The Printed Blue KPM Maker's Mark features an Eagle above the initials. This mark was used between 1845 and 1870.

This type is often very blurred, presumably on purpose, making it hard to hold apart KPM Berlin and Krister marks (the blur seem consistent with this piece). It differs from the competitor's mark, that of KPM Berlin, by not having the imperial eagle with sceptre and orb over the initials. Krister omitted the sceptre and orb from their logo. Condition : This stunning 150 year old platter is in excellent condition for it's age.

There are no chips, cracks, or crazing. There is light wear to the gold detailing at the trim edge and the center design has medium wear. Finally the sole of the platter/bowl shows moderate wear, as expected for it's age.

This item is in the category "Pottery & Glass\Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware\Platters". The seller is "loganstreasures" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
