Rare KPM Meissen Porcelain Mermaid and Putti Group -Crossed swords 11 1/2 Inch

This is a rare KPM Meissen porcelain Figural Group with Mermaids and Putti that I believe is representative of Aphrodite and her attendants. Aphrodite is known as the goddess of love, beauty and sensuality. She was not always a mermaid. But because of her beauty, she was not able to fully transform into a fish, so her top half remained human, and her bottom half turned into a fish. I believe this group dates to the 19th century but it could be earlier.

This group depicts a large Mermaid in the center of the design. She has beautiful long hair and her tail wraps around and up the back of the statue. She is supporting a large clam shell with anothe mermaid perched on top edge of the shell.

A Putti or Cupid appears to cling with arms outspread to the shell with his feet resting on the breast of the center mermaid. This piece is very ornate with applied seashells and flowers. The base has winged seahorses and other bits and pieces of seashells. There are 3 areas of damage that I can note. One is the petal or leaf of a flower.

One of the seahorses has a light rub on the tip of his nose and there is a very small chip on the fin of one mermaid tail. Because of the ornate nature of this piece, these damages are very hard to find. They are more felt with the hands and fingertips moving over the piece than by sight.

These 3 are all I could find- but I cannot guarantee that there are not more. There are 3 places where I see some minor damage.

Because of the Intricacies of the piece - these tiny damages are very hard to find. They are more felt with the hands and fingers moving over the piece. This is all I could find but there could be more.

If so they are very small. This piece is in earthen tones - from dark brown to light tan to ivory and almost a peach in some areas. The combination of tones used in dark and light areas draw ones eyes to the depth of the piece. In contrast is the gloss white of the mermaid bodies.
